Best Healthcare AI Newsletters for Executives: An Honest List

If you're managing a healthcare system, the query is not whether you should monitor coverage for AI news. It's about which news sources you include in your already crowded inbox. My newsletter is part of this select group, and each submission is reviewed by me. I will add sources for which I have direct competition and will not rank them. The appropriateness of a source is determined by the needs of the reader, not by a self-serving promotion.

While sifting through news trade articles, a rule to live by is that some of the listed sources are trade publications which are sponsored by the industries they cover, and which are free to read. Their free status and industry sponsored coverage do not reflect on the quality of the publication. Publications like these will require extra work on the reading front. Through my newsletter, I provide leaders of healthcare systems with an operational lens for formulating AI strategies in healthcare. I cover many areas, such as data preparation and management, model surveillance, and the procurement of AI systems, including the impact of AI systems on the healthcare systems that utilize them. I want to be forthright. STAT News produces healthcare technology articles, mostly focusing on AI in the field of medicine. Their articles are original, and in the healthcare technology space, that is especially important. While some articles are free, quality reporting is behind the paywall, and it is a subscription worth considering.

The focus of this publication is on healthcare and the intersection with artificial Intelligence. Their free email newsletter spans the clinical, the business, and the policy reporting. It is a great resource for executives.

Axios publishes succinct newsletters that report on the healthcare business and policy. They are often threaded with AI, and are best for executives who wish to quickly and succinctly stay current on the industry.

Health Tech Nerds is a community and newsletter for health tech operators and includes a weekly roundup of health technology including commentary and news on health tech startups and vendors. This is valuable because vendors are the ones selling to you.

Stanford Medicine and the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence are behind this health initiative for responsible AI. Their updates are research and event focused and serve as a good counterbalance to the more commercially focused that are in the rest of the coverage.

This publication is for healthcare executives and has coverage for AI and technology, as well as finance and leadership. This is good for executives that need AI coverage that is a portion of the coverage and not a standalone.

General technology newsletters that cover healthcare as a side note are not in this list. Also not in this list are vendor published newsletters and unsigned aggregators. A vendor newsletter is worth a read and many are on the condition the reader takes it as marketing with a byline. These sources are the ones you can clearly see who is writing and what pays for the coverage.

Two questions help sort this list more than any ranking. Who funds the existence of that coverage, and do those funds have influence over what's covered? Does the source cover failure in depth? A healthy executive reading list contains a trade source (with a healthy amount of skepticism), one newsroom, and one independent voice that answers to readers and not advertisers.
